Trade Waste

How the service works

Duty of Care charge:

All businesses are liable for the Duty of Care charge. As part of this charge, you will receive a copy of your

Controlled Waste Transfer Note which you are required to keep for two years, a supply of large food waste bags (dependent on the size of food waste bins on site) and your first delivery of bags in April 2024.

*Please note, you will no longer be entitled to a free cardboard collection, food waste collection and / or a glass collection. All of these are now options within our tariff structure.

Bin Hire:

Bin hire will remain the same for general waste bins; businesses will pay a set amount for each general waste bin for every week the bin is on site regardless of whether the bin is emptied or not.

General Waste:

With the implementation of the new recycling regulations, you should see a reduction in the amount of general waste you have to dispose of. With this in mind, we are continuing with our

“Pay as you Throw” service to allow our customers the opportunity to assess their current general waste provisions and where possible to reduce the number of bins/bin sizes to reduce costs.

As previously, this service will continue to give our customers the option to make flexible decisions about the frequency of their general waste collections. All we ask is that bin labels are securely fastened by 6.30am on the day of your collection. If there is no bin label attached to the bin(s) when we visit, we will not empty the bins.

General Waste Sacks:

Businesses are able to purchase pre-paid blue trade waste sacks to dispose of general waste.

* Please note, as from April 2024, you will no longer be able to dispose of any recycling materials within your general waste; all core recycling materials must be recycled separately. We have a full range of recycling options to suit your individual business needs

Pre-paid Waste & Recycling Centre (WRC) Sacks:

Available for businesses wanting to dispose of general/non-recyclable

waste at any of our WRCs, giving businesses the flexibility of disposing of their waste at their convenience. These sacks cannot contain recyclable materials for disposal; please don’t be offended if we ask you to sort and remove all recycling materials at the WRC. These sacks cannot be placed out for a kerbside collection.

Sack Delivery Charge:

Additional deliveries of sacks carry a small delivery charge of £6.50 - please allow 10 working days for the delivery of any additional bags.

* Please note, by returning your completed trade waste agreement early, your first delivery of bags is free of charge during April 2024. Alternatively, sacks can be purchased from Thornton Depot.

Segregated Recycling:

Our new recycling service offers customers a range of recycling receptacles for your recycling needs from reusable sacks to large 2 and 4 wheeled bins.
