Food Safety and Standards

There are over 2000 food businesses in Pembrokeshire, including food manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers and caterers. Three quarters of these businesses are classed as restaurants or other caterers.

The Food Safety and Standards Team are responsible for:

  • Routine inspection of food businesses, including sampling
  • Investigation of complaints about food and food labelling, and about hygiene standards in food premises
  • Registration and approval of food businesses
  • Investigation of sporadic cases and outbreaks of food poisoning and communicable diseases
  • Provision of information and advice to businesses

This work is set out in our annual Food Law Enforcement Service Plan

If we need to take enforcement action we follow our Food Safety and Standards Enforcement Policy.
