Can participants camp/wild camp during my event?

Participants should not wild camp during your event. If participants are on an endurance event in remote places it can be difficult to keep track of people and key issues of safety need to be considered.

We would encourage event organisers to identify licensed camp sites for participants and spectators. However, if camping is to take place as part of the event then it should be included as part of the Event Management Plan and appropriate controls should be put in place in control the risks. In particular you need to consider:

• Removal of animal droppings
• Spacing of units
• Access for emergency services
• Toilet provision
• Water supply
• Provision of electrics
• Provision of fire points
• Traffic management
• Campfire and BBQ safety
