Hazardous Household Waste

As a result of the landfill directive, any special waste emanating from a household has been banned from non-hazardous landfill sites from July 2004.

Various products routinely used in the home are described as ‘hazardous' for the purpose of disposal. Examples include garden chemicals that include pesticides, oil based paints, household cleaning products, lawn treatments and car anti freeze. Hazardous waste can not be disposed of with ‘normal' household waste. Disposal of hazardous household waste requires specialist help and advice.

You can bring small quantities of this hazardous material for recycling, reuse or safe disposal at any of our 6 Civic Amenity and Recycling Centres. This type of waste will only be accepted in their original clearly marked, sealed containers.

Drums of 25 litres and above are not considered to be household waste.

We currently do not accept asbestos.

Alternatively, you can arrange for your own disposal of asbestos by using the following options:

The Yellow Pages:

You could look in the yellow pages and arrange for a collection yourselves, simply look under 'Waste Disposal'. However, you should make sure that the contractor you choose is a registered waste carrier and licensed to deal with asbestos/hazardous waste. If you are unsure about this you can contact Natural Resource Wales, who can help with details of registered carriers. Asbestos should not be transported unless by a registered carrier.
