Fostering, supported lodgings and adoption

Fostering

Sometimes children are unable to live with their birth families and need a safe, caring home where they can thrive. Foster Wales Pembrokeshire supports local foster carers to help children stay connected to their schools, communities and support networks whenever possible.

Foster carers come from all backgrounds. Whether you are single, married, renting, a homeowner, working, retired, LGBTQ+, disabled, with children or without, you may be able to foster.

The most important qualities are having the time, space and commitment to support a child through both everyday life and challenges. There are many different fostering opportunities, from short-term care to long-term placements, and support for children of all ages.

As part of Foster Wales, we work with local families to provide stable, nurturing homes for children across Pembrokeshire.

Supported lodgings

Supported lodgings offer young people leaving care a safe place to live while they build the skills and confidence needed for independent adulthood.

As a supported lodgings provider, you can help a young person with everyday tasks such as budgeting, cooking, education, employment and managing appointments, while providing a stable and supportive home environment.

You do not need to be a foster carer to get involved. If you have a spare room and would like to support a young person as they take their next steps, we would love to hear from you.

Adoption

Every family is different, and there is no single definition of the perfect adoptive family. What matters most is providing a child with a loving, stable and lifelong home.

Adoption Mid and West Wales supports children who cannot live with their birth families to become part of a new permanent family across Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and Powys.

You can adopt whether you are single, married, in a relationship, LGBTQ+, disabled, a homeowner or renting. You do not need to have children already or previous parenting experience.

Adoption is a lifelong commitment, and support continues beyond the adoption process. Adoption Mid and West Wales also provides support to adopted people, adoptive families and birth families, as well as information on intercountry adoption.

If you are considering adoption, get in touch to find out how we can support your journey.
