Farmed Animal Welfare: Cattle, Sheep, Pigs, Goats
The Animal Health & Welfare team is responsible for the enforcement of the Animal Health Act 1981, Food Safety Act 1990, European Communities Act 1972 and the Animal Welfare Act 2006.
This includes ensuring the implementation of:
- Disease Control eg Bovine TB, Rabies, Foot and Mouth
- Animal Welfare
- Identification of Livestock
- Movement reporting & record keeping
- Medicine Records
- Disposal of Animal By Products
A note to first time keepers
Firstly, a premises needs to register with the Rural Payments Agency (0845 603 7777) to keep livestock, this allocates a 'County Parish Holding Number' to the parcel of land in which the livestock is kept. Once you have your CPH you can move the livestock to your holding under a General Licence.
Then, each premises requires a designated flock/herd mark, which is allocated once the type of livestock kept is registered to please contact the National Assembly in Caenarfon on (01286 674144) (This is required to be done within one month of the animal(s) arriving on the premises).
