School Based Youth Work

The School Based Youth Work Team is team of 8 Youth Workers covering the following secondary schools in Pembrokeshire:

  • Ysgol Greenhill
  • Ysgol Harri Tudur
  • Milford Haven Comprehensive
  • Haverfordwest High
  • Ysgol Penrhyn Dewi
  • Ysgol Bro Gwaun

School Based Youth Workers provide informal and non-formal activities and experiences and personal support for young people within their schools to positively influence their engagement in education, employment and training.

The team run an alternative provision through Princes Trust called the Achieve Programme. The Princes Trust programme offers young people the opportunity to achieve a qualification in Personal Development and Employability Skills (PDE). The qualifications are flexible and can be delivered in a variety of settings and tailored to meet the needs of the young people.

Youth workers in school work with young people on a 1-2-1 basis which is tailored around emotional health and wellbeing. Also in here, there is important group work looking at social skills, group work, team building etc.

Referrals can be made via discussion with the Youth Worker directly or the team’s Senior – Tristy McDermott
