We recognise that each individual has their own particular circumstances and needs.

This section provides information on support services and organisations that can help give you more independence, choice and control, in order to help you manage your own life in your own home.

Unpaid Carers

Please visit Unpaid Carers for information on available support.  You are a carer if you provide or intend to provide care for an adult or a disabled child. They could be a relative, friend or neighbour who is unable to manage at home without help because of sickness, age or disability.

  • For information on waste and recycling collections in Pembrokeshire please visit Waste & Recycling, e.g. Disposable nappy and incontinence waste collections (purple bags), collection reminders, etc.  If you are unable to put our your refuse and recycling at your nearest kerbside for collection and there is no one else living at your address that could  help you could register for Assisted / Doorstep Collections by calling 01437 764551 or emailing wasteops@pembrokeshire.gov.uk and a form will be sent out for completion.
  • Housing maintenance
    • Council House Repairs & Maintenance  for information on how to request a housing repair, planned maintenance and home improvements on council owned houses.
    • Private Sector Housing for information on Adaptations for the disabled in public and private sector property; Private Sector Housing standards, enforcement and licensing; Area renewal, home safety, energy, staying put grants and loans
  • Public Protection and Environmental Health
    • Pembrokeshire County Council Pest Control Service provides a variety of pest control treatments for a fee, details of which can be found at Pest Control Service  – (telephone advice will be free of charge)
    • Pembrokeshire’s Public Health Team is responsible for dealing with a wide range of services linked to the protection of public health, safety and wellbeing.  For more information please visit Public Health
  • Approved contractors - Rather than waiting for someone to knock on your door, it is better to find a reliable trader yourself. Ask friends and relatives if they can recommend a trader.  (If you have been targeted by a scam or you are concerned that a relative, friend or neighbour may have been targeted by a scam contact: Citizens Advice Consumer Service on 0808 223 1133 for advice.  The information is shared with Pembrokeshire County Council Trading Standards team, who may get in touch)
  • Local laundry services
  • Benefits - GOV.UK (opens in a new tab) – you may be eligible for additional benefits which can be used to fund any of the above.

Transport

  • Pembrokeshire Community Transport – These services help people and groups who don't have access to their own transport and who don't have or can't use conventional public transport services. In Pembrokeshire they are run by voluntary organisations and local non-profit community groups. 
  • The fflecsi bus service (opens in a new tab) picks up and drops off passengers within a designated service area, based on bookings made via the app or on the phone with our friendly bilingual call centre. The initiative is run by Transport for Wales (TfW) in partnership with local councils and bus operators. It offers a flexible alternative to traditional bus services, especially in areas where fixed routes may not be viable.
  • Hospital transport - As well as providing accident and emergency services, the Welsh Ambulance Service also arranges and provides transport to hospital for patients who are medically unfit to travel by any other means.   • The Blue Badge Scheme is designed to assist people with a permanent and substantial walking difficulty, cognitive impairment or other mobility issue, to park close to where they need to go.  A Blue Badge is designed to help people live an independent life; allowing them to travel as the driver or passenger to work, to undertake shopping or access other services they may need.  You can apply for new/renewal/replacement blue badges online by visiting Apply for Blue Badge (opens in a new tab)

Maintaining relationships and social activities


Work/Training/Education/Volunteering

  • The Pembrokeshire Supported Employment Programme assists people to achieve greater independence and self-esteem in supported work based settings.  The programme employs and works with people with a wide range of disabilities including:
    • Learning Disabilities
    • Neuro-diverse conditions including Autism
    • Mental Ill Health
    • Physical Disability
    • Sensory Disability
    • Substance Misuse
    • Work limiting health conditions such as epilepsy, cancer and arthritis.

It also offers work experience, training and work-based day opportunities.  If you live or work in Pembrokeshire and have a barrier to employment including disability, long term health condition or additional support needs, then Employability Support will help you access advice and a wide range of support tailored to your individual needs to improve your skills and knowledge to gain or retain work, get you into work or help you stay in work.


Parenting or Child Care Responsibilities

  • The child care assessment team may be able to help by providing you with information and advice, and if necessary support you in caring for your children.  The team works in partnership with parents, young people and carers to assess their individual needs. To provide the support that you may need, the team also works with other statutory, voluntary and independent agencies.

  • Flying Start is a Welsh Government funded programme which is targeted at children aged 0 - 3 years 11 months and their families who live in certain areas of Pembrokeshire.  To check to see if you are eligible please visit the website
  • Sarah Harvey, the Community Connector for Children, Young People & Families works with families and individuals to provide signposting, advice, support and information. She works with groups, organisations, projects and agencies to try and ensure that anything affecting families, children and young people is supported in Pembrokeshire.  Please visit Sarah’s padlet (opens in a new tab) for further information and how to contact her.
  • Action For Children Cymru (opens in a new tab) supports vulnerable children, young people and families in Wales with a number of projects and services. Staying safe at home

  • Community alarms / TEC - The Pembrokeshire community alarm service is an emergency telephone service with special features to suit the visually impaired, hard of hearing and people with mobility and other disabilities. It enables individuals to receive rapid attention in an emergency. Assistive technology is the overarching definition of Telecare and Telehealth equipment including community alarms.  Telecare systems can support independence and well-being. It enables family, friends, neighbours or carers to respond to a crisis in a timely way.  For more information please visit Your Personal Safety

  • Care & Repair West Wales (opens in a new tab) is a charitable organisation that helps older and disabled people to remain in their own homes by helping to repair, adapt and maintain their homes.

  • Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service (opens in a new tab) offer the opportunity to have a Safe and Well Visit in your home.  They are completely free and available to everyone.  The visit includes all the contents of the home fire safety checks but will also include other safety messages that may be relevant to the people living in the property. The five main additional topics will cover:
    • Smoking cessation
    • Home security
    • Falls prevention
    • Scamming awareness
    • Tackling loneliness and isolation

  • Safer Pembrokeshire is the Community Safety Partnership for Pembrokeshire.  There are a number of front line services provided by Safer Pembrokeshire, including:
    • Services for those misusing substances or those who care for them
    • Schemes to identify and work with prolific offenders
    • Services for victims and perpetrators of domestic abuse
    • Assistance for those suffering from anti-social behaviour
    • Information and equipment to keep yourself and your property safe
    • Safety and security checks/schemes at pubs and clubs
    • Diversionary activities for young people

Caring for your pets

  • The Cinnamon Trust (opens in a new tab) provides support for you and your pet whenever pet care becomes a struggle.  This could include walking your dog, taking your pet to the vets or even short term fostering during hospital stays.  Visit the website for more information or to get started.  Alternatively speak to one of their team on 01736 757 900 (Mon-Fri – 10.00am-4.00pm)
