Life Hub
Work & Money Skills
The Life Hub: work & money skills launched in Fishguard Library in February 2016. As the project progresses keep an eye on our webpage and Facebook page (opens in a new tab) for details of regular or one-off events and activities.
About the project
The Life Hub: Work & Money Skills was developed by the Cultural Services Department of Pembrokeshire County Council in partnership with Job Centre Plus, and follows a grant of £40,000 awarded by Welsh Government.
The initiative aims to help people grow by reducing barriers to work and improve skills development in North Pembrokeshire.
Our role at the Library is to provide facilities for relevant organisations to offer private consultation discussions with clients, to provide a larger room for focus group or workshop activities and to provide high quality information resources, through books, magazines and leaflets, to support these activities.
Events/activities
The launch was celebrated with numerous information stands hosted by partner organisations: Parents, Childcare and Employment (PaCE); Pensionwise from Citizens Advice; Fishguard Community Learning Centre; University of Wales Trinity Saint David; Careers Wales; Pembrokeshire Association of Voluntary Services (PAVS) and West Wales Credit Union.
Since the launch, several organisations have used the Life Hub consultation room on a regular basis, including PaCE; RNIB and Pembrokeshire Counselling Service.
Fishguard Library also hosted a Festival of Learning in June 2016. The event took place over a week and included taster sessions provided by Pembrokeshire College; an introduction to volunteering by PAVS; information about upcoming courses at Fishguard Community Learning Centre; help and advice from PCC Trading Standards Officer and local PCSO; taster sessions on Welsh language and our regular IT Drop in activity.
