Unpaid Carers

Unpaid Carers

You may not recognise yourself officially as a 'carer' but an unpaid carer is anyone who provides unpaid care for someone who is disabled, physically or mentally ill, or affected by substance misuse. They can be any age, gender or race and could be a husband caring for his wife, a parent caring for their child who has care and support needs or a child caring for their parent.

There are many different forms of support available for unpaid carers including:

  • Carers Support Groups
  • Short breaks and respite
  • Training
  • Advocacy
  • Befriending
  • Carers Recognition Card which includes concessionary access to Leisure Services and other offers
