Social Services Volunteer Driver Scheme

The social services volunteer driver scheme is a service co-ordinated by the County Council, which utilises volunteer drivers who use their own cars. The drivers transport young people and those that cannot use public transport.

Drivers are reimbursed a mileage rate of £0.45p for the whole journey and all out of pocket expenses.

The service provides transport for up to 300 passengers per week. Where volunteer drivers are not available, people may be transported by taxi. All passengers transported via this service are referred by Social Services.
