Personal Assistant

As part of your role, you will support this young man to develop his interests, access activities and improve his confidence and to continue developing on a personal level. You will use excellent communication skills to build a good rapport with this young man, reduce his anxiety and encourage him to expand his range of activities. A person with a fun, happy outlook on life would be suitable for this role. Ideally, this will be matched with a good personality and sense of humour to pass the time away chatting, enjoying activities and living life to the fullest. A knowledge of Down syndrome is essential for this role. This post is funded through the Direct Payments scheme and is intended to enable this man’s family to manage his support independently by employing their assistant.
The main duties to be included within this role are to:
- Provide companionship through good interaction. Explore this young man’s interests and get to know what his likes and dislikes are. Support him to develop them. This young man enjoys swimming, bowling, going to the cinema or being outdoors.
- Provide support and encouragement for this young man when out and about in the community to enable him to participate in and try new, fun and interesting activities to improve his confidence, abilities and satisfaction.
- Give this young man consistent one-to-one support and adapt to meet all of his emotional needs, enabling him to personally develop. A person, who is happy, has a good sense of humour and similar interests would be ideal for this role.
- Ensure food intake is monitored when required. A personal assistant must be able to prepare meals and light snacks when required.
- Ensure this young man is safe at all times during your working period, constant supervision is required as knowledge of hazards is limited
- A Knowledge of Makaton and Sign Along is advantageous when working with this young man.
- Local knowledge of activities available would be advantageous to this post, as the hours worked will be off-site within the community.
- Carry out any other reasonable tasks that your employer requests
The client is looking for a Personal Assistant that fits the following person specification:
- Responsible and honest
- Proactive and self-motivated
- Has good local knowledge
- Good time-keeping and flexibility around working patterns and duties
- Good communicator
- Able to develop a supportive and consistent relationship
Other Requirements:
A full, clean driving licence and use of a car is required.
You must have business use on your vehicle insurance to be able to use the vehicle within work hours.
Benefits:
5.6 weeks holiday per year (pro rata)
