Personal Assistant

Job Description:
A Direct Payments client in Pembrokeshire is looking to employ a Personal Assistant to support them with their care needs. This post is funded through the Direct Payments scheme, which aims to enable the client to manage their support and meet their care needs independently. The successful applicant should be friendly and supportive and be able to work flexibly to meet the care needs of the client. They should be able to support the client to make their own decisions around their care needs and encourage them to maintain their independence.
The main duties to be included in this role are:
- Assist with personal care, including washing, dressing and changing into nightwear.
- Support the individual to prepare for bed at the end of the day.
- Change catheter drainage bag as required, including changing to a night bag in the evening, and empty the catheter bag when necessary.
- Ensure the individual has independently changed their own stoma bag
- Prepare and provide breakfast, a main meal, an evening meal, drinks and ensure snacks and refreshments are left within easy reach.
- Prompt and encourage the individual to take prescribed medication.
- Ensure a suitable bowl or jug is available for the individual to empty their catheter bag independently between care visits.
- Promote the individual's independence, dignity, choice and wellbeing at all times.
- Monitor and report any changes in the individual's health, mobility or wellbeing in accordance with organisational procedures.
The client is looking for a personal assistant that fits the following person specification:
- Caring and patient
- Responsible and honest
- Proactive and self-motivated
- Has good local knowledge
- Good timekeeping and flexibility around working patterns and duties
- Good communicator
- Able to develop a supportive and consistent relationship
Other Requirements:
A full, clean driving licence and use of a car is required.
You must have business use on your vehicle insurance to be able to use the vehicle within work hours.
Benefits:
5.6 weeks holiday per year (pro rata)
Sick pay at SSP rate
Training is provided if required.
