Personal Assistant

The Direct Payments Recipient (The Direct Payments Recipient is the employer and they hold all the employer’s responsibilities associated with this role. Pembrokeshire County Council supports them to fulfil their employer obligations).

Introduction:

A family in Pembrokeshire are seeking a personal assistant to provide companionship and socialisation opportunities to a young man. This young man needs support to access his local community and activities of interest such as swimming. This post is funded through the Direct Payments scheme, which aims to enable the client to manage their support and meet their care needs independently. The successful applicant should be friendly and supportive and be able to work flexibly to meet the care needs of the client.

The main duties to be included in this role are:

  • Develop a reliable and trusting relationship with the person.
  • Ensure a structured set of activities is maintained
  • Support the person to access activities of importance
  • Access suitable community groups
  • Develop one-on-one interactions with the person whilst undertaking outings out of doors and activities which include physical activities
  • Communicate with the person’s family and wider support network.
  • Support the employer to develop independent living skills.
  • Provide companionship in the employer’s home, including engaging in conversation with the employer and providing them with social interaction
  • Ensuring the employer’s safety at all times during your working hours, as the employer is prone to falls.
  • Carry out any other reasonable tasks that are requested by the employer during your working hours.
  • Be mindful of safeguarding issues, and feedback any concerns to the relevant authority.
  • Be responsible for contacting the GP, Social Worker or Local Authority should the employer need medical assistance

The client is looking for a personal assistant that fits the following person specification:

  • Responsible and honest
  • Proactive and self-motivated
  • Good time-keeping and flexibility around working patterns and duties
  • Good communicator
  • Able to develop a supportive and consistent relationship

Other requirements:

A full, clean driving licence and use of a car is required.

You must have business use on your vehicle insurance to be able to use the vehicle within work hours.

PA to carry first aid kit

Benefits:

5.6 weeks holiday per year (pro rata)

Sick pay at SSP rate

Training provided if required.
