Personal Assistant

Reporting to:

The Direct Payments Recipient (The Direct Payments Recipient is the employer and they hold all the employer’s responsibilities associated with this role. Pembrokeshire County Council supports them to fulfil their employer obligations).

Introduction:

A gentleman in Pembrokeshire is looking to employ a Personal Assistant to support him with his son's care needs, providing companionship and supporting the young person to access the community. This young person has many varied interests that the PA would support with including outings in the car, walks, as well as activities within the home. This post is funded through the Direct Payments scheme, which aims to enable the family to manage their son's support and meet his care needs independently. The successful applicant should be friendly and supportive and be able to work flexibly to meet these.

The main duties to be included within this role are:

  • Develop a reliable and trusting relationship and provide 1:1 support with the young person.
  • Ensure a structured set of activities are maintained, where required.
  • Develop one-on-one interactions with the young person whilst undertaking outings out of doors and activities around his interests.
  • Communicate with the person’s family and wider support network.
  • Ensuring the employer’s safety at all times during your working hours.
  • Carry out any other reasonable tasks that are requested by the employer during your working hours.
  • Be mindful of safeguarding issues, and feedback any concerns to the relevant authority.
  • Be responsible for contacting the GP, Social Worker or Local Authority should the employer need medical assistance.

The client is looking for a personal assistant that fits the following person specification:

  • Responsible and honest
  • Proactive and self-motivated
  • Good time-keeping and flexibility around working patterns and duties
  • Good communicator
  • Able to develop a supportive and consistent relationship

Other requirements:

A full, clean driving licence and use of a car is required.

You must have business use on your vehicle insurance to be able to use the vehicle within work hours.

Benefits:

5.6 weeks holiday per year (pro rata)

Sick pay at SSP rate

Training provided, if required.
