School Transport Policy Consultation 2025

About the consultation

The Council has a statutory responsibility to provide home to school transport in accordance with the Learner Travel (Wales) Measure 2008. We currently provide transport to school / college for over 4500 eligible learners every day, at a cost of over £8 million per year.

Our current school transport policy and school transport eligibility can be found on our website.

Your views

We would welcome your views on our School Transport Policy as part of a wider review of school transport provision in Pembrokeshire. Whilst we have no specific proposals for change at this time, your views will help us to shape future provision. Considering your views is an essential part of the Council's decision making process. Responses to this consultation will be considered by the Policy and Pre-decision Overview and Scrutiny Committee in June before any proposed changes to the policy are put forward to Cabinet in September 2025.

Please complete the survey by Sunday 18th May 2025.

If you would like a paper copy please call our Customer Contact Centre on 01437 764551 or email school.transport@pembrokeshire.gov.uk so we can make arrangements to send this to you.

Any changes to the policy which are made as a result of this review will apply from September 2026. This will ensure that parents of learners commencing primary or secondary education in 2026 will be aware of the Transport Policy and eligibility criteria before submitting applications for their preferred school.

Please note that any changes to the policy will need to be deliverable and affordable in the context of driver shortages and the considerable financial pressures faced by the Council.
