Proposed Changes to First Cymru Bus Services from September 2024

We are consulting about proposed changes to the following bus services:

  • 302 – Haverfordwest to Hubberston

  • 322 – Haverfordwest to Glangwili Hospital, Carmarthen

  • 349 – Haverfordwest to Tenby via Pembroke Dock

  • 356 – Milford Haven to Monkton

  • 381 – Haverfordwest to Tenby via Narberth

The proposed changes aim to improve punctuality and the passenger experience. If approved, these changes would be introduced in September 2024.

The proposals are as follows:

ALL Services – routing via Withybush Retail Park and Withybush Hospital

  • After departing Haverfordwest Bus Station, all First Cymru services would call at Withybush Retail Park, Withybush Hospital, and First’s Depot on Withybush Industrial Estate, then travel around the bypass before continuing their onward journey.

  • Passengers wishing to travel to the retail park or hospital can stay on board their bus when it arrives at Haverfordwest Bus Station, and will then be dropped at these stops.

  • All passengers travelling to and from Withybush Retail Park would use the northbound bus stop on Sydney Rees Way.  This is the bus stop outside Home Bargains on the same side of the road as the Retail Park.

  • Services would call at the First Depot on Withybush Industrial Estate to allow for driver changeovers with minimum disruption to the service.

302 Haverfordwest to Hubberston.

  • Revised running times are proposed, especially during peak times.  The extra time is required due to traffic congestion in Haverfordwest and Milford Haven, which currently delays the service at peak times and has a knock on effect throughout the day.

  • As a result, this service would no longer run exactly every half hour, and there would be three fewer journeys each day.

322 Haverfordwest to Glangwili Hospital, Carmarthen.

  • Revised running times are proposed to address congestion experienced along the route.

  • There is a minor proposed change to the route in the Carmarthen area. The service would call at the Carmarthen Bus Station and then go straight to Glangwili Hospital via the by-pass. There would be no change to return service – this would go through the town and call at Carmarthen Bus Station again before departing towards Haverfordwest.

  • The service will still connect with the 381 in Narberth for travel between Tenby and Carmarthen.

349 Haverfordwest to Tenby via Pembroke Dock

  • Revised running times are proposed, especially during peak times.  This means that the service would no longer depart at the same time every hour.

  • We would reinstate a daily 14.20 departure from Haverfordwest (which currently only operates on Saturdays and during school holidays).

  • Following local consultation, we do not propose to make any changes to the service in the Penally area at the current time.  However, we will continue to monitor service disruptions in Penally villages caused by road blockages such as inconsiderate parking.

  • There would be a longer wait for connections to/from the 381 service for onward travel to Saundersfoot, Kilgetty and Narberth.

356 Milford Haven to Monkton

  • It is proposed that the 11.15 service from Milford Haven would terminate at Pembroke Coach House at 12:08 (not Monkton) to enable compliance with legal drivers’ break requirements

381 Haverfordwest to Tenby via Narberth

  • Revised running times are proposed, especially during peak times. This means that the service would no longer depart at the same time every hour.

  • The service would only call at Heywood Lane (Greenhill School) on school days at 08:19 (from Kilgetty) and 15.30 (return).

  • There would be a longer wait for connections to/from the 349 service for onward travel towards Pembroke and Pembroke Dock.

  • The service will still connect with the 322 in Narberth for travel between Tenby and Carmarthen.
