Fishguard Library
Public Consultation regarding potential future operating models for the public library based in Fishguard Town Hall.
Background
Pembrokeshire County Council is facing ongoing financial pressures. Both the Library Service and the Facilities department (which manages the Town Hall) are required to contribute to addressing this challenge. We are working in partnership with the Town Council and other stakeholders to find sustainable solutions.
As such, this consultation has been compiled jointly by Pembrokeshire County Council (PCC) and Fishguard & Goodwick Town Council (FGTC), to gather your views on potential options for the future management of Fishguard library, in the context of a differently managed Town Hall.
With regard to the Town Hall, the Town Council are considering taking over the management of the whole property, as a Community Asset Transfer (CAT), to enable the retention of the facility. This consultation is therefore about getting your views on the best option to reduce the running costs of the library, in order to make it financially sustainable in its current location.
A joint working group (PCC and FGTC) has been established to investigate various options, which are outlined in this consultation. The group is particularly interested in your views on the potential for creating a Community Managed Partnership Library, with the support of local volunteers.
To support this consultation, a public meeting has been arranged for: Monday 14th July at 6:30 PM in the Town Hall.
The focus of the discussion will be about how a Community Managed Partnership Library operates, and to establish if enough local people might be interested in volunteering.
This does not imply that this is the favoured option of the working group; rather, it is a reflection that it is a more complex option to understand than the other options being considered. We believe it would benefit from an open discussion, to ensure that you understand what would be entailed, and to establish if there is local interest.
