Age Friendly Communities Strategy for Pembrokeshire
About the Consultation
Age Friendly Communities relates to how older people are able to live a good quality of life in their own communities and within the county.
This survey is for people aged 50 years old and older living in Pembrokeshire thinking about, our later years and the communities we are living in, how we ourselves can do things to support this, how can statutory services help and how can voluntary and community organisations help.
An Age Friendly Community is a place that enables people to age well and live a good later life, somewhere that people can stay living in their homes, participate in the activities they value and contribute to their communities, for as long as possible.
The Age Friendly Communities approach was developed by the World Health Organisation (WHO) in 2007, in consultation with older people around the world. It is built on the evidence of what supports healthy and active ageing in a place and supports older residents to shape the place that they live.
The Age Friendly Communities framework has two models:
- The eight domains, or areas, that places can address to improve their structures and services to meet older people’s needs.
- Four-step programme cycle which guides communities through these continuous improvements.
Age Friendly Communities in Pembrokeshire will use the framework as a lens within which to view our communities and the county through. We will collect data, build partnerships, and commit to actions under these domains, which will be captured in the Pembrokeshire Age Friendly Communities Strategy and Action Plan, that will be developed through your answers and comments and working with partner organisations, such as: Hywel Dda University Health Board, Pembrokeshire Coast National Parks, the voluntary sector etc and following legislation. This work will be monitored and contributed to through the Age Friendly Communities Strategy Board and Pembrokeshire’s 50+ Forum.
Pembrokeshire's 50 Forum: Open to anyone over 50 who wish to share live experience and views of older people in their community with statutory and voluntary organisations. pembrokeshire50plusforum@gmail.com
