European Structural & Investment Funding

Between 2014–2020 Wales will benefit from over £2bn of European Structural Funds investment

The funds help support people into work and training, youth employment, research and innovation, business (SMEs) competitiveness, renewable energy and energy efficiency, and connectivity and urban development.
Together with match funding, the Structural Funds will drive a total investment of almost £3bn across Wales.

Structural Funds Programmes in agreement with the European Commission, investments are prioritized according to social, economic and environmental needs and opportunities.

European structural funds are made up of:

  • European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) 
  • European Social Fund (ESF) 

European Structural Funds in Wales are administered by the Welsh European Funding Office (WEFO).

ERDF funds will help progress the region's transformation into a sustainable and competitive economy by investing in research and innovation and helping new and existing businesses to grow. It will also focus on renewable energy and energy efficiency, and strategic infrastructure. ESF will be used to tackle economic inactivity, and increase skills and employment.
