Welsh language Standards Annual Report 2024-25

Purpose of the Report

  • This report provides details of how Pembrokeshire County Council has implemented and complied with the Welsh Language Standards during the reporting period April 2024 - March 2025.
  • The report provides a summary of the key activities and achievements during 2024-25 in line with the reporting requirements of the Welsh Language Commissioner.
  • The report reflects the authorities ongoing commitment to the promotion and provision of Welsh Language services and opportunities to use the Welsh Language for its staff, members of the public and stakeholders. The achievements in 2024-25 ensure that we not only comply with the standards but the Welsh Governments ambition to see the number of people able to enjoy speaking and using Welsh reach a million by 2050 (Cymraeg 2050: A million Welsh speakers).
  • The Welsh Language Standards were prepared under the Welsh Language (Wales) Measures 2011 (1) and the Welsh Language Standards (No.1) Regulations 2015, which came into force on 31 March 2015.
  • The standards explain how the authority is expected to deliver specific services through the medium of Welsh with the aim of ensuring that the Welsh language is not treated less favourably than the English language.
  • The full list of the standards, with which Pembrokeshire County Council is required to comply, are contained within a Compliance Notice, which is available on our website.
  • Standards 158,164 and 170 require us to publish an annual report, which sets out how we have complied with:
    • Service delivery standards
    • Policy making standards
    • Operational standards
    • Promotional standards
    • Record-keeping standards
  • The report presents required performance indicators under the standards including staff language skills, posts advertised requiring Welsh language skills, training courses to learn/improve Welsh and complaints received related to the Welsh language.
  • We are required to publish our Annual Report on our corporate website by 30th June.
