St Davids Day Celebration for Staff on 5th March 2025
- A celebration of St Davids Day was held in County Hall for staff which included Welsh language “Taster” activities and Mynediad / Beginner Welsh information was shared by the Welsh language tutor. The coffee morning was highly positive and was well-attended, with around 40 people attending in the County Hall canteen. Many people had the opportunity to speak with the Welsh language tutor about the Welsh language courses available and expressed an interest in having a taster session.
St Davids Day Parade 2025 on 7th March 2025
- Over a thousand children and staff paraded through the County town, Haverfordwest, in the St Davids Day Celebration.
- Haverfordwest was a hive of activity as hundreds of children from fourteen schools sang and waved as they paraded through the town centre to celebrate the Patron Saint of Wales.
- Organised by the Pembrokeshire Language Forum and Pembrokeshire County Council, the annual parade has proved to be popular with schools and residents alike. Led by the enthusiastic sounds of Samba Doc, the parade started from the top of town and children marched down High Street before looping through the town centre and ending at Picton Playing Fields, for an open-air jamboree.
- The Council Leader said: “This was a wonderful event, and it was fantastic to see schools from across Pembrokeshire taking part.”
- The Welsh Language Development Officer, said: “A heartfelt thank you to the schools, organisations, volunteers, and everyone else who help make this yearly event such a success – it’s wonderful to see so many people coming together to celebrate our language and culture!”
Eisteddfod 2026
- On 1st July 2024, Cabinet formally approved the offer from the WLGA to host the 2026 Eisteddfod (opens in a new tab) in Pembrokeshire on a site in Llantood. In terms of Eisteddfod history, 2026 marks the 850th anniversary of the Eisteddfod in the Dyffryn Teifi area. Hosting the Eisteddfod in 2026 helps us to progress our support for the Welsh language within our communities.
- Preparations are well underway for the “Eisteddfod y Garreg Las” which will be making its first visit to Pembrokeshire since 2002. Held next year from 1st- 8th August, it will be a unique collaboration with neighbouring counties, with the catchment not only including the whole of Pembrokeshire, but also extending into western areas of Carmarthenshire, and southern Ceredigion.
- Members of Gorsedd Cymru, along with residents, will lead a procession through Narberth on Saturday, 17th May, for the proclamation ceremony (opens in a new tab) and welcome the Eisteddfod at Llantood in 2026.
- During the ceremony, the first copy of the List of Competitions is presented to the Archdruid, and this year, the Chair of the local Executive Committee, will have this honour.
- Hundreds of children and residents from across Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion are expected to welcome the National Eisteddfod to the area.
