Welsh Language Commissioner's Promoting Compliance Programme 2024-25
- The authority has developed and maintains a good working relationship with the Welsh Language Commissioners Office, working closely with their Promoting Compliance Officer. As part of the Promoting Compliance Programme launched in 2024-25 the Council have attended a number of the sessions with particular focus on specific areas under the standards which include:
- June 2024 – completion of the Welsh Language Commissioner’s policy-making standards survey which assessed compliance with the policy-making standards.
- September 2024 - introductory session discussing the work that supports and promotes compliance with the standards relating to increasing the use of the Welsh language with the workplace.
- November 2024 – Policy-making Standards workshop which shared best practice gathered from the survey findings on compliance with these standards.
- December 24 - Welsh Language Promotion Strategies - sharing good practice from a study of arrangements to implement and assess the achievement of 5-year strategies to promote the Welsh language.
- February 2025 - Skills Assessment and Recruitment Session – discussion and sharing of information on issues relating to language skills assessment, job advertising and attracting Welsh speakers.
- March 2025 - Promoting Compliance Plan 2025 and onwards - to learn about the new monitoring arrangements and future work under this programme.
- Best practice guidance from these sessions is being used to support implementation and compliance with the standards and to support the development of the next 5-year Welsh Language Strategy which will run from 2026-2031, and review of the Internal Use of Welsh Policy.
- The Commissioner will be providing more guidance and support to organisations in order to improve compliance and improve the services offered to the public. The Promoting Compliance Programme 2025-26 (opens in a new tab) events schedule is available on the Commissioners website.
