Help with school meals and costs
Cashless catering and biometric system
Secondary schools in Pembrokeshire use a cashless catering system to make paying for school meals quick and secure. Some offer a biometric system (finger recognition) option.
What is biometric?
Biometric means using a fingerprint instead of a card. Your child places their finger on a scanner at the till, and the system matches their fingerprint to their account.
Why we use it
- Faster service – reduces queues at lunchtime
- No lost cards
- Safe and secure – only your child can access their account
How it works
- Your child’s fingerprint is scanned and converted into a secure numeric code
- The fingerprint image is not stored
- The code is only used for identification within the catering system
Data protection and consent
- The system complies with General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) and data protection laws
- Parents must complete a biometric consent form to use this service
- Consent can be withdrawn at any time
Alternatives
If you do not want your child to use biometric identification, they can:
- Use a cashless catering card
