How to pay your Council Tax
Set up or change your Council Tax Direct Debit
Paying by Direct Debit is the easiest and safest way to pay your council tax.
You can:
- choose a payment date: 8th, 15th, 22nd or 28th of the month
- spread your payments over 10 or 12 months

What you need
- your bank account number and sort code
- you must be the account holder and authorised to set up a Direct Debit
Changing your payment date
If you change your payment date later, your instalments may increase because there will be fewer payments left in the financial year. We’ll send you a new council tax bill with the updated instalments. We need to give you 14 days’ notice before any changes take effect.
Set up a Direct Debit before you travel
You might not be able to use My Account or access our website from outside the UK.
To avoid missing a payment, we recommend setting up a Direct Debit before you go.
Go paperless with your council tax bill
You can choose to get your council tax bills online instead of by post.
When you sign up for paperless billing, you’ll be able to view your bill as soon as it’s available.
