How to pay your council tax

The best and easiest way to pay your council tax is by Direct Debit.

It is secure, automatic and helps make sure you never miss a payment.

You can also pay online, by phone, standing order, post or in person.

Pay by Direct Debit

Direct Debit is the simplest and most reliable way to pay your council tax.

With Direct Debit you:

  • do not need to remember to pay
  • can choose a payment date that works for you
  • are protected by the Direct Debit Guarantee

You can:

  • choose to pay on the 8th, 15th, 22nd or 28th of the month
  • spread payments over 10 or 12 months

Call 01437 764551 and choose the council tax option
Lines are open:

  • Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 9am to 5pm
  • closed on Wednesdays

 

By form

Download and complete the Council Tax Direct Debit form, then send it:

Include your council tax account reference number or address.

 

What you need

  • your bank account number and sort code
  • you must be the account holder and authorised to set up the Direct Debit

 

Changing your payment date

If you change your payment date later in the year, your instalments may increase because there will be fewer payments remaining.

We will send you a new council tax bill and give you 14 days’ notice before any changes take effect.

 

Set up a Direct Debit before you travel

My Account may not be accessible from outside the UK.

If you are travelling abroad, we recommend setting up a Direct Debit before you go. This helps make sure your payments are made on time.

 



Pay online

You can pay your council tax online using My Account.

With My Account you can:

  • make payments
  • check your balance
  • view your council tax details
  • sign up for paperless bills

You can pay using:

  • a debit or credit card
  • a saved card in your My Account Wallet
  • PayPal

If you are outside the UK

My Account may not be accessible from outside the UK.

If you are travelling abroad, we recommend setting up a Direct Debit before you go. This helps make sure your payments are made on time.

If that is not possible, you can still pay by:

  • automated phone payment (24 hours)
  • contacting our Contact Centre

Have your council tax account reference number ready. You can find this on your bill.



 

Standing order or online banking

If you want to pay by standing order or online banking, use these details:

  • Bank: Barclays Bank, 32 High Street, Haverfordwest, SA61 2DA
  • Sort code: 20-37-90
  • Account name: Pembrokeshire County Council
  • Account number: 53671917

You must include your council tax account reference number.
Payments without the correct reference may be delayed.



 

Pay through the contact centre

If you cannot pay online or through the automated payment line, you can call our Contact Centre to pay by debit or credit card.

Pay by post

You can send a cheque made payable to Pembrokeshire County Council.

Write your council tax account reference number on the back of the cheque.

Do not send cash through the post.



 

 

Go paperless

You can choose to receive your council tax bills online instead of by post.

When you sign up for paperless billing, you can view your bill as soon as it is available.
