Duke of Edinburgh's Award
Check out the official Duke of Edinburgh's website (opens in a new tab) for more information.
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) is a high-quality, challenging, rewarding, and enjoyable programme of personal development for young people aged 14–25. It gives participants the chance to push themselves, try new things, and gain valuable skills that will benefit them both now and in the future. To find out exactly what is involved and to learn more about the benefits of taking part, participants are encouraged to visit the Award’s own website.
The award is made up of three levels Bronze, Silver, and Gold. Each level includes sections focused on Volunteering, Physical activity, Skills, and Expedition, with an additional Residential section at Gold level. These areas help young people build confidence, improve fitness, learn practical or creative skills, and develop teamwork and independence through planning and completing an expedition.
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is particularly strong in Pembrokeshire, where participation is very high. The county has been proud to have some of the highest participation rates in Wales for over 30 years, showing how valued and well supported the award is locally. Many young people take part through schools and youth organisations, making the DofE a well-established and important opportunity for personal development in the area.
