Armed forces support – Gold Award Holder and Guaranteed Interview Scheme for Veterans

We recognise that those who serve or have served in the Armed Forces, along with their families, should be treated with fairness and respect in the communities, economy and society they protect through their service.

To demonstrate this commitment, Pembrokeshire County Council has proudly pledged its support to the Armed Forces community, including current and prospective employees who are members of this community.

We are Gold Award holders under the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme, the UK Government’s highest badge of honour for employers who support the Armed Forces. We welcome all recruitment applications from reservists, veterans, cadet instructors, and military spouses or partners.

We are committed to maintaining Armed Forces-friendly practices in our recruitment and selection processes, and to actively promoting this support within our networks, industry, and through our engagement with Armed Forces Cadet organisations.

Guaranteed Interview Scheme for Veterans

Pembrokeshire County Council demonstrates a robust commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant, recognising the sacrifices made by military personnel and their families, and pledges support to key initiatives such as the Guaranteed Interview Scheme for Veterans.

By supporting the Guaranteed Interview Scheme for Veterans initiative, UK Armed Forces veterans who apply for jobs with Pembrokeshire County Council and opt into the scheme, will be offered a guaranteed interview, providing they meet the essential job criteria required for post. The scheme will enable veterans to be moved on to the next stage of selection, such as an interview or online test, and provide them with the opportunity to demonstrate their strengths beyond the initial application stage.

Veterans will not be guaranteed a job, as roles will still be awarded to the best candidate based on objective criteria in the job specification – but there is a guaranteed interview for any UK Armed Forces veteran whose application meets the minimum criteria for the post.

To apply for a job under the Veterans’ Guaranteed Interview Scheme, UK Armed Forces veterans would need to visit the Jobs and Careers page of our website and make the declaration when requested in their online application.

Eligibility for Guaranteed Interview

UK Service Personnel

UK Armed Forces individuals will be eligible if they meet the essential criteria for the role and if any of the below apply;

You are currently serving within the UK Armed Forces/within the 12 week discharge date.
You are ex UK armed forces personnel within 3 years of your discharge date.
The UK Armed Forces was your last long term substantive employer.

Spouses/Civil Partners of UK Services Personnel

We also guarantee an interview for all military spouses/civil partners if they meet the essential criteria for the role and if any of the below apply;

The service person is currently serving within the UK Armed Forces/within the 12 week discharge date
The service person is ex UK armed forces personnel within 3 years of their discharge date
