Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

Need help?

You can book a collection for large household items like fridges, beds, and furniture. We can collect up to 20 items in one visit.

This service is for residents only. You cannot use it for businesses, holiday lets or rentals.

Bulky waste collections are carried out by FRAME, a local charity that works with us.

Collections usually take place  up to three weeks of booking.

What it costs

What we do collect

You can’t add anything else to your order once you've placed it, so think carefully about what you need to get rid of and include everything you need in the order.

  • a confirmation email
  • a payment receipt

If you don’t receive both emails, check your junk or spam folder. If you still can’t find them, email us at digital@pembrokeshire.gov.uk

  • explaining what to do next
You’ll also get a reminder email the day before your collection.

If your collection is on a Monday, we’ll send the reminder on the Friday before.

On the agreed collection day, place all items outside your property as instructed by 8am.

We’ll collect your items anytime between 8am and 4pm.

You don’t need to be at home during the collection

If they’re not, we won’t be able to collect them, and you won’t get a refund.

  • Please place your items outside your home by 8am on your collection day
    • To avoid damage or obstruction, don’t put them out before unless they’re covered and not blocking pavements or roads.
  • Items for collection must be placed together, outside your home or in an easily accessible location with clear access for the collection van (as you would for your usual bin collection) before 8am on the booked collection day.
  • If rain is forecast, cover items to keep them dry and avoid water damage or extra weight
  • If it’s windy, weigh down or secure items so they don’t blow away
  • Dismantle large items (like trampolines and bunk beds) and tie the parts together as one item
    • Our team can’t take apart items during collection

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

Can someone help me move the items if I can’t put them outside myself?

Yes. If you are unable to move items outside due to a disability, limited mobility, age-related challenges, or because you usually receive assisted waste collections, we can help.
Please let us know at the time of booking and provide as much detail as possible. This helps us plan and ensure the right support is available.

What if it’s raining and I don’t have a way to cover the items?

If possible, please put the items out on the morning of collection rather than the night before. This helps reduce how wet they get.

Fabric items like sofas and mattresses are harder to collect when waterlogged, so we may not be able to take them if they’re too soaked and heavy.

If you can, please cover these items or stand mattresses on their side to help reduce water absorption.

What if my item is very heavy – will you still collect it?

Items are collected by a team of two. If something is too heavy or unsafe for two people to lift, we may not be able to take it.

Please check our list of items we can’t collect for known heavy or restricted items.

All items are assessed on the day for safe lifting.

What can I do with an item you can’t collect because it’s too heavy?

If the item is too heavy and can’t be safely lifted by two people, you may want to:

Most standard household items (not including DIY waste) can usually be collected if they meet our size and weight limits.

Do I need to dismantle my items before collection?

Yes. Items must be no longer than 6 feet (including rugs) to fit on the vehicle.

Please dismantle or cut up large items and tie or bundle them together, such as bed frames or slats.

If I am not around on the day of collection, can I put items out before?

Yes. You don’t need to be home on the day.

Just make sure:

  • Items are placed together outside your home, clearly visible, and easy to access
  • They are not blocking pavements, roads, or pathways
  • Items are covered or secured in case of bad weather

I don’t have space outside to leave the items. What should I do?

If placing items outside would block a footpath or road, please tell us when you book.

We may be able to collect from inside your property in exceptional cases, but:

  • You must be at home at the time
  • The reason must be genuine and related to access or safety
  • Please give full details when booking so we can assess and plan accordingly

My items were collected by someone else before your team arrived. Can I get a refund?

No, unfortunately payments are non-refundable.

Please refer to our terms and conditions for more information.

My items weren’t collected on the day I was told. What should I do?

If you presented the items correctly and your collection was missed, please let us know.

We’ll aim to collect them as soon as possible, and will contact you within 1 working day to rearrange.

I missed my collection day or forgot to put the items out. What now?

  • Please check your confirmation and reminder emails for your collection date.
  • If we came and couldn’t find the items, we’ll leave a card.
  • If the items weren’t out or accessible, we can’t offer a refund. You’ll need to rebook if you still want them collected.

The item I want collected isn’t on your list. Can I still book?

Please check the list of items we do collect and the list of items that we don’t collect.
If your item isn’t on either list but meets our general guidelines, you can still make a booking. Choose ‘miscellaneous’ and give a clear description.
We may contact you for more details or cancel the booking if it doesn’t meet our health and safety or service guidelines.
