Sport Pembrokeshire
Active young people
The Active Young People Team at Sport Pembrokeshire strives to make sport and physical activity accessible, engaging and inclusive for children and young people across the county. Focusing on targeted geographical areas, the team delivers programmes with schools and community settings, to help boost confidence, wellbeing and active lifestyles.
This includes:
- Offering Young Ambassador programmes where pupils are trained to lead and promote activity in their schools and communities.
- Working with school staff, Early Years settings, and parents to help children develop the motivation and basic movement skills needed to enjoy being active throughout their lives.
- Supporting extra‑curricular clubs and promoting school club links
- Offering holiday provision for children and families, especially in disadvantaged or underserved communities.
- Delivering free weekly after school community multisport sessions during term time
Sport Pembrokeshire - Free multisport sessions:
These sessions are aimed at 5 -11 year olds and delivered weekly during term time by Sport Pembrokeshire staff and sports coaches at the following targeted area leisure centre settings:
- Haverfordwest (Pembrokeshire Sports Village at Haverfordwest High VC School)
- Milford Haven
- Pembroke
- Fishguard
These inclusive sessions offer opportunities to try a wide variety of sports and activities including ball games, racket sports, archery, boccia, dodgeball and more. Linking to local community clubs, we offer pop up taster sessions with local clubs, for example golf, tennis or taekwondo. We listen to the young people and shape our offer to meet their needs.
